Al Pacino’s Shrek Phone Case Has a Wholesome Story

Al Pacino recently revealed the story behind his viral Shrek phone case. The case, which features images of the beloved green ogre, was a gift from his daughter, Olivia. This isn’t the first time the case has made headlines; fans first noticed it in a 2022 photo with Jason Momoa.

Al Pacino reveals Shrek phone case was gifted by his daughter

Al Pacino recently shared the story behind his Shrek phone case during an interview with the BBC News while promoting his memoir, Sonny Boy.

When BBC Correspondent Colin Paterson commented, “Of all the things Al Pacino would have on his phone cover, I was not expecting Shrek,” Pacino explained how he received the case. “My daughter gave me that,” he said, adding that his youngest daughter, Olivia, had borrowed his phone and returned it with the Shrek case. He recalled her words: “She said, ‘It’s Shrek, Dad!’ I said, ‘Shrek? Wow. Okay babe, I’ll hold onto it.’”

Pacino’s Shrek phone case first drew attention in April 2022, when Jason Momoa posted a photo of the actor with the phone case during a dinner. The picture went viral, but Pacino admitted he hadn’t noticed the case’s design until social media reactions pointed it out. In an older interview with TODAY’s Harry Smith, the iconic actor said, “I didn’t even look at it until social media told me what was on my phone, and I took a look and said, ‘That’s Shrek.’” When asked if he had kept the case, Pacino confirmed, “Of course. It was a gift.”

The Shrek phone case has become a fan favorite, with many appreciating the amusing contrast between the actor’s onscreen persona and the playful phone case. DreamWorks Animation even acknowledged the case by tweeting, “Real recognize real,” alongside an image of Shrek holding a phone case featuring Al Pacino’s face.
