Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie visited four Dead Reckoning screenings across North America to surprise audiences.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is surely packed with thrills, but attendees at recent screenings got their own pair of surprises in front of the big screen when star Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie appeared as special guests in four North American cities.
An accompanying video provided by Paramount Pictures shows Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie prepping their surprises at the Dead Reckoning screenings, going down hallways and stairwells – to which Cruise quips, “This is how they always take me into places” – before emerging from behind the screen to eruptive applause…Wait until they see the movie! (Our own Chris Bumbray gave it a 9/10; you can read his review here.)
At one of the stops on their Dead Reckoning trot from Toronto to Washington to Atlanta to Miami, Cruise and McQuarrie, Cruise addresses the audience. “I just want to thank you all very much for coming. We really do dream about these moments of sharing the film with you, so this is very special. We just wanted to take time and just see you all. We think about you while we’re making this movie and it’s really beautiful…”
Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest proponents of getting people into the movie theater, so undoubtedly he is touched by the turnout for Dead Reckoning, which could near $100 million domestically in its opening. That the moviegoing experience and producing “mass entertainment” mean so much to him that it almost makes you want to see his movies on the big screen rather than wait for VOD.
The official plot synopsis of the movie, as per Paramount: “In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
