Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is officially changing its name. BioWare announced today the game will have a new title and will get an official gameplay reveal very soon.
What is the new Dragon Age: Dreadwolf title?
The game formerly known as Dreadwolf will now be known as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and will get its first big gameplay reveal on June 11, 2024, according to a report from IGN. The game, which has been kept under wraps for years, was first revealed back in 2018, with Bioware showing off some bits and pieces of art over the past few years. Now, however, the studio is ready to unveil more.
In an interview with IGN, BioWare general manager Gary McKay also opened up about the game, revealing that The Veilguard will feature seven playable party members as well as “fun and fluid, moment-to-moment combat.” He explained the name change, noting that sticking with Dreadwolf might’ve been easier, but not right for this game.
“We actually think sticking with Dreadolf would have been the safer choice — ‘Dread Wolf’ is a cool name after all,” McKay said. “In the end, it was most important for us to have a title that was authentic to the companions that are the heart of this adventure we’ve created. We’ve worked throughout development to create really incredible backstories for each companion that intersect with the main narrative in meaningful ways.”
In a blog post on BioWare’s site, the company also detailed some of what to expect in the upcoming game. According to the developer, players can once again expect a brand new lead hero to be introduced, and an “amazing cast of companions” as well.
“Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them — as well as their lives,” said McKay in the blog post. “You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions — not your enemies — are the heart of this new experience.”
