Euphoria star Dominic Fike has revealed that he was nearly kicked off the popular HBO show during production.
Why was Dominic Fike almost kicked off Euphoria?
In an interview with Apple Music, Fike opened up about his struggle with drug addiction and how he nearly ended up having to leave the series.
“I was a drug addict, and coming onto a show mainly about drugs was very difficult,” Fike noted, explaining that series creator Sam Levinson also got him a sober coach “to be there all the time,” though it apparently didn’t prove to be effective (via TVLine.)
“I was so f–ked up during a lot of that show … But I was reprimanded for it. I almost got kicked off the show. They took me aside. They were like, ‘Bro, you cannot be doing this.’”
Based on an Israeli series of the same name, Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they struggle to move through the worlds of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.
It features an ensemble cast that includes Zendaya in the lead role of Rue. Also starring in the series are Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, Sydney Sweeney, Algee Smith, Jacob Elordi, Austin Abrams, Eric Dane, and Nika King. Joining the new season are Javon Walton and Dominic Fike.
Euphoria is created and written by Sam Levinson, who is also executive producing with Zendaya, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, and original creators Ron Leshem & Daphna Levin.
Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Mirit, Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon are executive producing, with Kenneth Yu, Ashley Levinson, Harrison Kreiss, and Julio Perez serving as co-producers.
