Gladiator II will open with “probably the biggest action sequence” that Ridley Scott has ever made.
Gladiator II opens in United States theaters in November 2024. The film, directed by Scott, stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius, and more.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Scott revealed that the opening scenes of Gladiator II will be nothing short of epic.
“We begin the film with probably the biggest action sequence I’ve ever done,” Scott said. “Probably bigger than anything in Napoleon.”
Addressing how Gladiator II will utilize different kinds of technology that weren’t available when the original Gladiator, released in 2000, came out, Scott said, “Computerisation and AI — you have to embrace it. I can have a computer read every molecule and wrinkle on a rhino and then cut it on a thick piece of plastic, absolutely as a rhino’s body, which is then tailored to a skeleton shape.”
What is Gladiator II about?
“From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome,” the official synopsis reads. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.”
Along with Mescal and Pascal, the upcoming sequel stars Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, Denzel Washington as Macrinus, Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta, Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla, and Derek Jacobi as Senator Gracchus.
Gladiator II will be released in United States theaters on November 22, 2024, from Paramount Pictures.
