House of the Bloodaxe comic book

The prequel comic book series Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, based on a story by Zack Snyder, reaches stores in January

Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, the first part of director Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, will be released through the Netflix streaming service on December 22nd (you can already read our review of the film HERE), with Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver set to be released on April 19, 2024. In between the two films, Titan Comics will be publishing a prequel comic book series called Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe – and four sample pages can be seen at the bottom of this article, thanks to SuperHeroHype.

The first issue of the series will be reaching store shelves on January 10th.

Based on a story by Snyder, Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe has been written by Magdalene Visaggio and sports artwork by Clark Bint. The story follows the reluctant leader of the Bloodaxe family. War looms on the horizon of the planet Shasu, and it falls to him to maintain peace. To do this will require settling the conflicts within his heart and his family, before his entire world erupts in violence.

Snyder has always been open about the fact that he’s hoping “a massive IP and a universe that can be built out” from the foundation of Rebel Moon. He crafted the story for Rebel Moon with 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad, and the pair wrote the screenplay with Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten. The events of the two films, which draw inspiration from Seven Samurai, are set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.

Snyder, his wife Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller are producing the Rebel Moon films through their company Stone Quarry. Eric Newman is producing via his banner, Grand Electric, while Grand Electric’s Sarah Bowen executive produces.

In addition to the two films and the prequel comic book series, a Rebel Moon animated series is also in development.
