The Marvels star Iman Vellani says that Marvel Studios needs to make audiences care about their characters again.
It’s no secret that Marvel Studios isn’t exactly enjoying the same level of praise it did during the Infinity Saga days, but The Marvels star Iman Vellani has a few suggestions to get the franchise back on track.
While speaking with The Direct, Iman Vellani said that Marvel needs to make “the audience care about their characters” again. “I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s about just getting bigger and bigger and bigger,” Vellani said. “Because then, like, what’s left? You know, I think it’s just about making the audience care about their characters. And I think they’ve established so many wonderful characters in the last phase of the MCU that it would be nice to see them all again and see them team up.“
The Multiverse Saga introduced many new Marvel characters, including Vellani’s Kamala Khan, but fans feel the new additions could have been used better. The actress added that she’d like to see more of the new MCU heroes sharing the screen, which we’ve started to see in The Marvels. “I think, because there are so many new characters people want to like, start shipping people together and be like, ‘Oh, seeing Kamala and like the Red Guardian together,’” Vellani said. “Like imagining all these pair-ups, and I think that would definitely pay off. It’ll be like, you know, the next Avengers.“
“In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” reads the official synopsis. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.” In addition to Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, The Marvels also stars Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
The Marvels is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out a review from our own Alex Maidy right here and let us know what you thought of the movie as well!
