Jason Momoa says his future as Aquaman in the DC Universe isn’t looking good, but hopes there might be another role for him to play.
The release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a mere week away, which means that the DC Extended Universe will be coming to an end, but will it be the last time we see Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis?
Unfortunately, Jason Momoa seems to think so. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight‘s Ash Crossan, the actor said, “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice… The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility. But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’“
With James Gunn and Peter Safran setting the stage for a new DC Universe, very few actors will be reprising their DCEU roles. Even if Jason Momoa doesn’t return as Aquaman, he hopes that he will still have a part to play in the new DC franchise. “If there’s a place in their world for me, I would love to be a part of it,” Momoa said. “This is my home. Warner and DC is definitely my home. So, that’s all I’ll say.” There have been rumblings that Momoa could take on the role of Lobo, but nothing has been officially announced. “I was a big Lobo fan growing up, I read every comic,” Momoa said of the rumours. “So that would be really cool.“
“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all,” reads the official synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. “This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.“
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on December 22nd.
