UPDATE NOV. 13, 2024: While Deadline said on X that a previous version of the publication’s article “incorrectly stated Lupita Nyong’o had also joined the cast of Nolan’s next film,” The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Nyong’o has indeed been tapped to play in undisclosed character in the movie.
Original article: Anne Hathaway and Zendaya have joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s next movie.
Fresh off the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, Nolan is now working on his next movie for Universal Pictures. While official plot details remain under wraps at this time, Tom Holland and Matt Damon have both been cast in the film.
Per Deadline, two more stars have also joined the cast of the movie: Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.
Hathaway has worked with Nolan before. She first played Selina Kyle/Catwoman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises before she then starred as Dr. Amelia Brand in 2014’s Interstellar. Outside of Nolan, Hathaway’s filmography includes 2001’s The Princess Diaries, 2004’s Ella Enchanted, 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, 2012’s Les Misérables, 2018’s Ocean’s 8, and 2024’s The Idea of You, among other titles.
This marks the first time, however, that Zendaya and Nolan will have worked together. Zendaya is known for playing MJ in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy and Chani in the Dune movies, while her filmography also includes 2017’s The Greatest Showman, 2021’s Malcolm & Marie, and 2024’s Challengers.
There are also online rumors suggesting that Lupita Nyong’o has been cast in the movie; although, this doesn’t seem to be official at this time. The social media posts mentioning Nyong’o link back to Deadline’s article, which does not mention Nyong’o and no correction to the story has been added.
What else do we know about Christopher Nolan’s new movie?
While Nolan hasn’t commented on what his next movie may be about, the latest prominent theory suggests it may involve aerial helicopter cops, one of whom is older and one of whom is younger.
It was also recently announced that Nolan’s movie will utilize a never-before-used IMAX technology.
Nolan’s next, still untitled movie will be released in United States theaters on July 17, 2026, from Universal Pictures.
