Mason Gooding Is Confident Another Sequel Will Be Made

Mason Gooding is confident that Scream 7 will be made despite some major setbacks.

Speaking with Variety at Vanity Fair and Instagram’s pre-Oscars Vanities party, Gooding said of Scream 7, “If it could make money, I guarantee you, they’ll make it.”

It’s unknown if Gooding will return for Scream 7, as the actor says he’s not actively having conversations about the movie at the moment. “It’s one of those things where you wait to hear from the people that make the big decisions,” he said.

Gooding added, “It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. Scream doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they…If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”

What’s going on with Scream 7?

In August 2023, it was announced that Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon had signed on to direct the seventh film in the Scream franchise.

Plans for the movie, however, were put on hold when Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise for supporting Palestine in regard to the Israel-Hamas war. One day later, Jenna Ortega announced she was also not returning for Scream 7, though she cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for her departure.

Writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick were told to create a brand-new screenplay for the film. Spyglass Media Group is reportedly hoping to potentially bring Neve Campbell or Patrick Dempsey back to the franchise, though neither of them have committed to returning at this time.

In December 2023, Landon announced he was no longer directing the movie. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others,” he wrote on Twitter. “It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing, and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

There’s been little word about what’s happening with Scream 7 since then, as the film has no release date at this time.
