Naked Gun Remake Gets Release Date for Liam Neeson-Led Comedy

The long-in-development Naked Gun remake starring Liam Neeson now officially has a release date, with Paramount revealing the film will arrive next year.

During a slew of news announcements, the company confirmed that the remake will release on July 18, 2025. The movie will be directed and executive produced by Akiva Schaffer, who co-wrote the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are also producing the movie, which Variety notes will be based on the Naked Gun franchise as well as the television series Police Squad!

Neeson had been attached to Naked Gun remake for some time

A Naked Gun remake has been in the works for some time, with Neeson’s name officially becoming attached two years ago. Further details about Neeson’s potential character are still being kept under wraps. However, in 2022, Neeson hinted about the project during an interview with ComingSoon, in which he revealed that MacFarlane asked him if he’s interested in playing a new version of Frank Drebin — a character famously portrayed by Leslie Nielsen.

“Well, I’m interested in comedy,” Neeson said. “Seth McFarlane has approached me about maybe, I think Paramount Studios had asked Seth, would he be interested in resurrecting in the Naked Gun series, or a film based on Naked Gun, so he asked me if I’d be interested in playing the Leslie Nielsen character, which are huge shoes to fill, so we’re hoping that’ll maybe come together in the next year or two years.”
