Sam Mendes is unsure if he will make any additional Bond films.

Sam Mendes believes that directing the next James Bond movie will likely be entrusted to a younger and more easily influenced individual. Mendes, who directed Daniel Craig through the films “Skyfall” and “Spectre,” acknowledges the longstanding history of the Bond franchise and the tradition of rotating directors. In a recent interview with Inverse, Mendes discussed how working on the Bond films helped him break out of old habits and think on a larger scale, but he doesn’t see himself returning to the franchise in the future. The 59-year-old director considers directing a Bond film to be a game for the young, stating that the studio prefers directors who are earlier in their careers and can be more easily controlled.

The question of who will helm the next Bond film remains unanswered, as both Edward Berger and Christopher Nolan have denied involvement in the project. As the franchise moves forward, uncertainties loom over the choice of the next Bond actor and the overall direction the studio will take. With “No Time to Die” released three years ago and no clear roadmap in sight, fans may have to wait at least three more years before the next Bond film hits the big screen. Ultimately, the decision on whether Sam Mendes should return to the franchise or who should take his place remains up in the air.
