The Blackening PVOD Release Date Set for Black Horror Comedy Movie

The Blackening PVOD release date for Lionsgate’s latest horror comedy has been revealed after nearly a month since its theatrical debut. The Tim Story-directed movie will be available this Friday, July 7.

During its theatrical run, The Blackening earned a total gross of $15 million. It also garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised the movie’s sharp story and great cast chemistry.

What is The Blackening About?

“The horror comedy centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer,” reads the synopsis. “Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherfu–in’ game. The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?”

The Blackening is directed and produced by Tim Story from a screenplay co-written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. The film stars Antoinette Robertson, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji, and Jay Pharoah.

The film is produced by Marcei A. Brown, Jason Clark, E. Brian Dobbins, Tracy Oliver, Tim Story, and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, with Vicky Story as an associate producer.
