The One Piece Trailer Reveals the New Anime Adaptation

With a trailer, Netflix has revealed The One Piece — a new upcoming anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s massively successful manga series.

The new series is described as “a new anime adaptation starting from the iconic East Blue saga” and is being produced by WIT Studio, who did other massive series such as Spy x Family and Attack on Titan.

A joint statement from The One Piece’s production committee — made up of Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co. representatives — says that The One Piece “will be distinct from the TV anime series,” making for a “fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”

What is One Piece about?

Oda’s iconic manga follows Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate who gains the powers to turn his body to rubber after eating a “Devil Fruit.” He ventures around a fantastical world of exotic islands and vast oceans in search of the legendary treasure known as “One Piece.”

Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump began serializing the manga in July 1997. As of writing, the manga currently has reached 1101 chapters. Meanwhile, there are currently 107 manga volumes available in Japanese and 104 in English. Toei Animation produces the anime adaptation, which premiered in October 1999.
