The Tomorrow War’s Yvonne Strahovski on Whether a Sequel Could Happen

The Tomorrow War premiered on Prime Video on July 2, 2021, and even though it garnered a mixed response from critics, it broke multiple viewership records. Due to its success, conversations about a potential sequel had started in the same month as its release. However, more than three years have passed since then, and there isn’t any update on the matter. But Yvonne Strahovski, who portrays Colonel Muri Forester in the original movie, recently addressed whether the sequel was still in development.

Yvonne Strahovski still ‘hopeful’ for a The Tomorrow War sequel

In a recent remark, Strahovski made it clear that she can’t talk about the status of the sequel, before adding that she was “hopeful” that it would still happen.

“I, unfortunately, probably cannot say anything about it,” Strahovski told ComicBook. “I am hopeful that it will work out, but that’s it. That’s all I got on that.”

In the original movie, Strahovski’s Muri Forester is the adult daughter of Chris Pratt’s Dan Forester. The story takes place in a world where humanity faces an alien invasion in the future. Dan, a biology teacher and former Green Beret, travels from 2022 to 2051 to take on these aliens, known as the Whitespikes, and reunites with his daughter, who he discovers is a leader of the human resistance.

Less than a week after the movie’s debut on Prime Video, Deadline reported that most members of the cast, including Pratt and Strahovski, as well as director Chris McKay and screenwriter Zach Dean, were in talks to return for the sequel. Even before that, McKay spoke about wanting to explore the origin of the Whitespikes in a prospective sequel. (via ComicBook)

During an interview with Uproxx in April 2023, McKay mused on the success of The Tomorrow War before confirming that the sequel was still in development. Yeah. “Well, there is a script coming for that,” he said. It is unknown whether the project has since made any progress.
