Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino has plenty of ideas for a sequel to the Marvel Special Presentation.
Werewolf by Night was a fun departure from typical Marvel fare, with a black-and-white presentation that felt inspired by Universal Monsters and Hammer Horror, but will we ever see these characters again? Nothing has been announced regarding a sequel or follow-up to Werewolf by Night, but director Michael Giacchino told Collider that he has plenty of ideas for more if and when Marvel comes calling.
“There’s always talk,” Michael Giacchino said. “But, you know, until somebody decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet. So, hopefully. My wish is that, yes, there will be more with these characters. I would love to, and I have ideas of what I would love to do with them, and it’s all crazy and nuts, but I think that’s the only way to go about it. So, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, one day.“
Werewolf by Night stars Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell, a monster hunter who has been afflicted with a curse that turns him into a werewolf. Laura Donnelly also stars as Elsa Bloodstone, the estranged daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone who dislikes her family’s tradition of hunting monsters. “On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader,” reads the official synopsis of Werewolf by Night. “In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.“
As Werewolf by Night remains unlike anything we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s hard to imagine just how it will factor into the franchise, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said last year that the project has introduced a world that will “ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.“
While we’re not getting another Halloween special from Marvel this year, a special colourized version of Werewolf by Night will be released on Disney+ on October 20th. Would you be down for a Werewolf by Night sequel?
