Why Fans Think Ryan Guzman’s Eddie Could Be Leaving 9-1-1

The recent storyline in 9-1-1 Season 8 has led fans to believe that Ryan Guzman’s Eddie Diaz might be leaving the series. Introduced in Season 2, Eddie is a skilled firefighter at Station 118 of the Los Angeles Fire Department. However, his son’s move to El Paso has caused Eddie to reconsider his career. This has left many fans wondering whether his departure is inevitable.

Here are all the key details you need to know about Eddie’s potential departure.

Is Ryan Guzman’s Eddie leaving 9-1-1?

The ongoing 9-1-1 storyline and comments from co-creator Tim Minear suggest Eddie Diaz may leave the series. However, upcoming episodes will ultimately determine his fate.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, showrunner Tim Minear discussed Eddie’s situation. He confirmed that Eddie feels a strong pull to leave Los Angeles to be closer to his son.

“I’m not sure exactly how to answer that question without spoiling too much, but let’s just say that Eddie’s feeling that maybe he’s got to leave everything behind to reconnect with his kid is very real,” Minear said.

Eddie faced an emotional challenge when his son, Christopher, decided to live with his grandparents in El Paso at the end of Season 7. Since then, Eddie has struggled to balance his responsibilities in Los Angeles with his desire to be close to his son.

In Episode 8, titled “Wannabes,” Eddie’s memories of his son resurface, and he realizes their relationship is slowly straining. During a FaceTime call, this realization intensifies, prompting Eddie to share his decision with Buck. In the episode’s closing moments, Eddie reveals his plan to leave Station 118 and asks Buck to help him search for houses in El Paso.

For now, fans will have to wait for the upcoming episodes to find out if Eddie truly departs from 9-1-1 or if circumstances change.
