Why Fans Think Victor Is Leaving The Young and the Restless

Fans are speculating that Eric Braeden, who plays Victor, might be leaving The Young and The Restless due to some reported agreement issues. Introduced in 1980, Braeden was initially supposed to last in the show for only a few weeks. However, he ended up becoming a fan favorite and a key character in the show’s storyline. With him being on the series for more than 40 years, fans are not ready to say goodbye to him. But, is the fan speculation about him exiting the show even true? Here are the details.

Is Eric Braeden’s Victor Newman leaving The Young and the Restless?

Neither Braeden nor CBS have given any word on Victor Newman’s departure from the show. Given there is no official news, it seems he is not exiting the show.

It appears the rumors about Braeden’s departure stemmed from his Entertainment Weekly statement, which suggested that he didn’t come to an agreement with CBS. He underwent some negotiations with the network and reportedly showcased flexibility. However, CBS showed no interest in reaching a final agreement.

He further added, “That’s it. No more. If I show goodwill, I expect it to be reciprocated. If there is a rigid attitude on the other side, what is there to negotiate? That’s a sign of utter disrespect. I will not negotiate with people who remain aloof and arrogant about the whole thing. Not after 30 years, I won’t do that.” But, he expressed respect for his fellow cast members and crew, who worked hard on the show as well as for head writer Maria Bell. (via TV Source Magazine)

His character was supposed to be written off with uncertainty around his potential return. However, in late October, it was reported that Braeden and CBS had reached an agreement and he would be returning to the show, as per his rep. (via Soaps.sheknows)

Aside from the agreement conflicts, fans’ concerns around his health issues also made them think about Braeden’s unlikely return. This is because, last year, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. While he was deemed cancer-free a few months later, this year, he revealed to Entertainment Tonight, that his diagnosis is “on hold.” But, it seems he is not exiting The Young and the Restless. Now, it remains to be seen how his character arc unfolds in the show.
