Mark Wahlberg Addresses Sequel Plans After Streaming Success

Mark Wahlberg’s 2007 action drama Shooter was recently recorded as one of the most-watched movies on Paramount Plus. While the movie received mixed reviews when it first hit theaters nearly two decades ago, Wahlberg’s performance as Bob Lee Swagger, a former elite sniper, managed to impress viewers over the years. And now, the movie’s latest streaming success has made fans wonder if a sequel, Shooter 2, is in the works. During a recent interview, the actor shared his thoughts about the possibility of a potential sequel.

Mark Wahlberg teases Shooter sequel potential and future plans

While promoting his upcoming project, The Union, Mark Wahlberg was asked whether there might be a sequel to Shooter and its future plans.

Taking into consideration the recent top management changes at Paramount and Skydance’s acquisition of the production giant, Wahlberg seemingly teased the chances of Shooter 2 happening but did not confirm anything.

In an interview with Screen Rant, he said, “Well, I think my good friends over at Skydance just took over Paramount, so I think that’s a possibility. We got a pretty good library over there with, not only Shooter, with The Italian Job, even Four Brothers, The Fighter. And then other things that they have in the library that could be interesting to revisit, or revamp, but that one in particular.”

Further, Wahlberg expressed his excitement at the thought of reuniting with other cast members, if the sequel were to happen.

He said, “Anywhere I go for the last 20 years, people are always coming up to me about that movie. They don’t always turn out the way you want. But that particular movie? If myself, Antoine Fuqua (Director), and if they get Michael Peña back, that would be very cool.”

Shooter is based on Stephen Hunter’s 1993 novel Point of Impact. Given that there are several other novels in the Hunter’s Bob Lee Swagger series, a sequel could be developed using these books as source material.

While Wahlberg seems hopeful, whether Shooter 2 becomes a reality remains to be seen.
