The first reactions from a Burbank screening of Ti West’s MaXXXine have emerged, giving us a clearer idea of what kind of horror it is.
To the MaXXXine
MaXXXine is the third in West’s Mia Goth-fronted horror trilogy from A24, which saw period terror in the 70s set X and in the technicolor prequel Pearl. It had been previously reported that the film was a ”whodunnit slasher”.
It’s said that MaXXXine is a homage to Dario Argento and the sub-genre of Giallo, likening it to Lucio Fulci’s The New York Ripper.
Set five years after the events of X, Mia Goth, once again portrays Maxine, who is now acting in a slasher film in the 1980s as Hollywood is being terrorized by a serial killer, known as the ‘’Night Stalker”. Unfortunately for Maxine, the killer is fixated on her and starts to take out the people in her life.
Additional details mention scenes set in the Bates Motel from Psycho and a surprise appearance from a mystery actor.
MaXXXine stars Mia Goth, Elizabeth Debicki, Giancarlo Esposito, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Halsey, and Lily Collins. The film currently has no release date, but is expected to arrive in 2024.
