Zack Snyder reveals that the first teaser trailer for his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon will be released next week at Gamescom.
Beyond a few images and a behind-the-scenes featurette, we haven’t seen all that much of Zack Snyder’s long-awaited sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, but that’s about to change. Zack Snyder took to social media to announce that the first Rebel Moon teaser trailer will be released next Tuesday at the Gamescom conference.
“Adding the final touches,” Zack Snyder wrote in the caption. “The Rebel Moon teaser trailer will make its global debut live @Gamescom. See you there on Tuesday, August 22.“
“When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival,” reads the official synopsis. “Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.” Sofia Boutella stars alongside Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Donna, Jena Malone, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Michiel Huisman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Alfonso Herrera, Anthony Hopkins, and more rounding out the stacked cast of Rebel Moon.
The plan is to split Rebel Moon into two epic features, and much like Army of the Dead, there are several potential spin-offs in development should the film do well. There will also be two different cuts of the film, one which will be a presentation that “anyone can enjoy and watch,” while the other will be a harder, more explicit version aimed at an adult audience.
Rebel Moon began life as a Star Wars pitch a decade ago but has been retooled as an original sci-fi universe. “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder previously said. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.” Rebel Moon will debut on Netflix on December 22nd.
